Dear students,

This issue raised on 1st February 2011 by a student regarding reserving of computers by students has now been escalated and Resource Technicians will be logging off computers and removing students belongings left on desks for long periods from now on. A long period is over an hour.
Please be aware of this issue and don’t abandon your stuff for long periods or leave computers logged in.  Be especially careful of leaving your computers logged in with unsaved work.
Please be considerate of fellow students who need to do their work too at this busy time of year.
Also a reminder to you not to leave memory sticks in computers or belongings like student cards, phones, valuables on desks.

Thank you,

Moorgate Library

Dear GDL students

As you are in the middle of you PfP Formal and are soon to be starting your PfP II I wanted to remind you of the legal research support that is available to you.

Please check out the My library tab on Elite for Legal Research Guides, Legal Research FAQs, i-Guides (online tutorials) , Library Catalogue to look up books and journals held in the library, course and subject links, access to online databases.

As well as online help you can come and ask at the library for legal research advice.

I will be running more legal research workshops specifically aimed at the PfP II from week beginning 21st February but in the meantime you can go to the Lexis and Westlaw drop in sessions and presentations with demos

Check out Practitioner works by going to Lexis Library My bookshelf or to Westlaw Books. Westlaw has a range of full text journals but also has bibliographic journals via the legal journals Index which is specifically handy as you can then check to see if we hold the hard copy journal in the library. Lexis Library has different full text journals to Westlaw.

Also check out JustCite http://lawdbs.lawcol.com/login?url=http://www.Justcite.com useful for EU Cases, Legislation and bibliographic journals which links to full text on Europa, Westlaw, Lexis Library.

To check abbreviations go to Cardiff Index to Legal Abbreviations online http://www.legalabbrevs.cardiff.ac.uk/
Also Estates Gazette interactive has access to EG journal articles and EG cases. http://www.egi.co.uk  to sign up ask at the enquiry desk for username and password details.

Any questions ask at the library enquiry desk, 1st floor, email library-moorgate@lawcol.co.uk  or phone: 01483 21 6371.

Dear Students,

This is just a quick reminder of how to use the library here at Moorgate.  If you wish to search for an item please use the Library Catalogue situated on the My Library Page, under Library Resources. When you reach the catalogue, type your search term into the search box and this should result in a list of items, when you click on an item it will tell you a class mark (e.g. LITG.CRM).  This class mark will show you where to look in the Library;  all items are ordered alphabetically.  Please see the Library Catalogue Guide  for futher instructions.

All Law reports are on the 1st floor section of the Library while text books and journals are located on the ground floor.

When taking books out of the library you can either use the self service machines or come to the 1st Floor enquiry desk.

If you are using books in the Library and not taking them outside of the building, please make sure you shelve them back in the correct place or place them on a shelving trolley to be shelved by Library Staff. This makes sure that books are available to all students.

If you would like to reserve a book that is already on loan please be aware that the reservations service is currently undergoing some changes so it may be best to either telephone the Library on 01483 216371, email library-moorgate@lawcol.co.uk or come in person to the enquiry desk.

Thank you,

Moorgate Library
