Dear students,

This issue raised on 1st February 2011 by a student regarding reserving of computers by students has now been escalated and Resource Technicians will be logging off computers and removing students belongings left on desks for long periods from now on. A long period is over an hour.
Please be aware of this issue and don’t abandon your stuff for long periods or leave computers logged in.  Be especially careful of leaving your computers logged in with unsaved work.
Please be considerate of fellow students who need to do their work too at this busy time of year.
Also a reminder to you not to leave memory sticks in computers or belongings like student cards, phones, valuables on desks.

Thank you,

Moorgate Library

Dear Students,

This is just a quick reminder of how to use the library here at Moorgate.  If you wish to search for an item please use the Library Catalogue situated on the My Library Page, under Library Resources. When you reach the catalogue, type your search term into the search box and this should result in a list of items, when you click on an item it will tell you a class mark (e.g. LITG.CRM).  This class mark will show you where to look in the Library;  all items are ordered alphabetically.  Please see the Library Catalogue Guide  for futher instructions.

All Law reports are on the 1st floor section of the Library while text books and journals are located on the ground floor.

When taking books out of the library you can either use the self service machines or come to the 1st Floor enquiry desk.

If you are using books in the Library and not taking them outside of the building, please make sure you shelve them back in the correct place or place them on a shelving trolley to be shelved by Library Staff. This makes sure that books are available to all students.

If you would like to reserve a book that is already on loan please be aware that the reservations service is currently undergoing some changes so it may be best to either telephone the Library on 01483 216371, email library-moorgate@lawcol.co.uk or come in person to the enquiry desk.

Thank you,

Moorgate Library

How to Print

  • From your College PC, send your work to print as normal.
  • Go to any printer in the library
  • Hold your student ID card to the sensor pad (you will hear a beep).
  • Press the ‘Login’ button on the keypad.
  • When you login, the printer will tell you how much credit you have available.
  • Press the ‘Print’ button to view a list of your print jobs.
  • Select the print jobs that you want to print (or press the ’Select All’ button).
  • Press the big blue start button on the printer.
  • Press ’OK’ to go back to the main menu.
  • Press the ‘Access Key’ button to logout.

If you have any problems sending work to print, or retrieving work from a printer, please contact a Resource technician restechs-moorgate@lawcol.co.uk ,
Tel:07776 045 152 or speak to any member of the library team.

You can send more than one print job from your PC, and collect them all in one go, when you are ready.  Just make sure that you collect them within 3 hours, otherwise they will be deleted.

In terms of cost, you are given £50 credit (2500 copies) at the start of your course.  Printing and photocopying costs 2p per page.  We expect your credit to last for the duration of your course.  However, if you do run out, you will be able to purchase additional credit.

If you have forgotten your student ID card, you can login with your username (student number) and password (computer password) on the keypad.  Please note, you may need to press the keypad firmly.

Just a reminder that during this time printed material such as  the Halsburys’ series will be in heavy demand.  As a result please would you return volumes to the library trolleys for re-shelving once you have finished rather than letting piles of material accumulate on desks. This way we can ensure all library material is easily accessible to all students. halsburys-volumes

Some of you may have seen me in the library already, but to put a name to the face, I’m Natasha Choolhun. I come from Eversheds where I spent 3 years as an Information Officer, working with fee-earners & very closely with trainees. Please feel free to contact me regarding any research/ library questions either in person, by ‘phone - 01483 216280 or email: natasha.choolhun@lawcol.co.uk

Photocopy cardPhotocopiers are available on both floors of the Library.  Operate the copiers as follows:

  • Purchase a £3 photocopy card from a dispenser (vending located near copiers on both floors of the library).
  • Insert card into the photocopier.  Each £3 card contains credits for 60 copies (5 per A4 sheet).
  • When you need to top-up your card, use the adjacent Revaluer to add credit.

Please note each College site operates photocopying facilities independently.  Therefore Moorgate photocopy cards will not operate photocopiers at any other College Library, and similarly cards purchased at another Library will not activate Moorgate photocopiers.

Like all members of Higher Education institutions, College students and staff are legally obliged to follow copyright regulations agreed with The Copyright Licensing Agency.  The current College licence can be viewed here (PDF).

All College of Law students are welcome to use facilities at any College site.  It is recommended that you contact the Centre before you travel though, as each Centre operates independent access/visitor procedures and restrictions may apply during Assessment periods.  When visiting other sites, you must always carry your College of Law ID.

So for example, if you find it easier to travel at a weekend or during vacation periods to London Bloomsbury rather than London Moorgate, then you are welcome to use the Bloomsbury library facilities or to access a PC.  Please refer to the Bloomsbury blog for further details.

Please note that although you are welcome to use alternative Centres, you should always rely on your home site to provide suitable facilities and resources to support your course programme.  There is no expectation from the College that you will need to travel to other Centres, other than for personal convenience only.

Reference Only

The online library catalogue searches across all College libraries so it’s easy to search for resources before you travel (ELITE > My Library > Library Catalogue).  Please note however that you are only entitled to borrow library material at your home site, and that library access is for Reference Only at all other sites.

The only exceptions to this are students following the LLM, Part Time Weekend/Day GDL and Moorgate Part Time LPC programmes - ask at your home library for further details.
